Today, I awoke with a flame. A burning spiritual flame. Over the course of my adult life these days happen on occasion. Lately, there have been more occasions.
Folks, God lit a fire inside of me. I can’t ignore it because it burns. I can’t hide it because it’s bright. I cannot tame it because it’s hot. It’s not I, but His Spirit in me. Praise Him for His work in my life! Perhaps this seems like boasting. I tell you, I am not ashamed to boast of this because it is the power of God which brings salvation to all people who believe.
Not only will I not apologize for this fire, but I will stoke it and feed it. This little light of mine has become a bon fire. The bon fire will become a raging forest fire that’s fueled by my prayer. I am compelled by His Word. His Spirit will help me find kindling to grow its base. He will protect these flames from rain or water or smothering agents that threaten this Holy burn.
What of my friendships? What of my habits? What of my history and future? I came from the places where I now preach and I pray for the people I once joined. Every day my conflict twists and aches for resolution. Yet I am not satisfied to withdraw and whatever inhibitions I have are consumed by the fire.
Am I to retreat? Or, am I to recruit? Where is your fire? Now pray that God would strike His match and know that He will be faithful. When that fire is lit, fuel it with prayer. Get in His Word that you too might be compelled. He is faithful and His Spirit will guide you. Reject the rain and water and smothering agents! If it costs your friendships then spend them. If it costs your freedoms then lose them.
As I pray for my own fire I will pray for yours.

Wow! I would like to restoke whatever fire I have. Those Christians of my generation should still be on fire for God. Too many of us are sitting in a rocking chair and waiting until the death angel takes us to heaven. We need to realize that the race has not yet been run, the battle still rages and we should still be workers in the harvest field. We can pray even if we’re bedfast!
